gus before

We adopted one of “Sally’s dogs” in June 2015 and cannot thank her enough. Gus has brought so much love & laughter into our family, we can’t imagine life without him. Sally’s understandably particular about who she trusts with her rescues so it was an honour to make the cut, she saves very special dogs and puts them with just the right people so she’s not just changing the dog’s life, she’s changing his human’s too! Our Eleuthera mutt was near death when Sally found him and she put in the love, attention and care to bring him back to life. Now he’s an energetic little clown who loves to play and cuddle. Everyone who meets him falls in love, and when they ask where he came from, I just say he’s one of Sally’s.

Growing up in Rock Sound, I have always been aware of the plight of stray animals, especially dogs, so I was very interested when I found out about Eleuthera Animal Rescue Society on Facebook. It wasn’t long before I found out that they were looking for a home for this beautiful, black, shaggy puppy named “Lovely Girl.”

A few months later, the post appeared again saying that she was still up for adoption, and I just knew that I had to be the one to provide a “furever” home for her. After messaging the page back and forth, I discovered that she was being fostered by Ann, who later contacted me and made arrangements to ship her via the fast ferry.

The procedure was very quick, easy and hassle-free. Within a few hours, we had her. Lovely Girl, renamed Lucy, has grown into a beautiful, well-adjusted, loving member of our family. She has two beautiful potcake sisters, and she has brought so much joy into our lives. Without the hard work of the volunteers of E.A.R.S, none of this would have been possible. Their dedication to saving the animals of Eleuthera has given many animals like Lucy a chance at a better life.

In November 2014, Lucy  was rescued from Lower Bogue, she was being kept by someone who was hoping to breed potcake pupppies for sale, but who then realized that this was a bad idea all around, so he decided to surrender her to us and allowed us to find her a wonderful forever home and not live a life of slavitude, breeding more puppies, only to be cast out onto the street when no longer useful.  Now she lives a life many potcakes can only dream of….
